(Many thanks to the OP for taking the time and trouble to post an English subtitled version of this film on IA for everyone to enjoy. I assure you that, once you have seen it, you will never forget it, so stop reading this review and watch it already. However, it has commanded a great deal of praise and respect in the 21st century. It is a great pity that it did not win a spot as a nominee for Best Foreign Language Film by AMPAS. In Das Boot season 3, the young German U-Boat crew, under the command of Robert Ehrenberg (Franz Dinda), are in very dangerous waters as the British Navy has started to get to grips with the relentless German attacks by using ever more sophisticated sonar technology and depth charges. It was not in the least surprising for me to learn that some viewers were so traumatised by viewing "Come and See" during its original 1985 release that they left the theatre in ambulances. I am a big fan of "Das Boot," a motion picture experience that leaves the viewer with a sense of horror, pointlessness, and claustrophobia, but that film has *nothing* on this one. The only thing it lacks, perhaps, is a way for the viewer to *smell* the mud, blood, and burning flesh seen onscreen. ![]() There isn't much one can say about this film (what would be the point?). ![]() that provides a glimpse of how insane and surreal war is. An inexperienced U-boat crew has to survive a secret mission and a young German woman is torn between loyalty for her home country and the French resistance.
